Happy MLK weekend

Not much new to report. The media is laying low right now in covering the race, and it really is calm in the run up to pulling petitions. Candidates have been making appearances, and it seems that Tom Sawyer has even been seen at a meeting in Summit County. We are unsure what he's up to, really. He is either trying to coast on name ID (the "pretend I'm still an incumbent" strategy), or is still in the exploratory stage.

Despite that, Tom Sawyer cannot be written off or underestimated. He's represented a good part of the district, and certainly has the highest name ID of any candidate. Despite his trade votes, should voters be focused elsewhere, he could very well pull through.

To all, a happy Martin Luther King Day, and take a moment, everyone, to remember his legacy, how far we've come as a nation, and how much further we have to go.

I have personally spotted Tom Sawyer at a meeting in Summit, so I can confirm that he is out and about and shaking hands.

Also I think it is more than the exploratory phase- my friend is circulating candidate petitions for him. I (half-heartedly, or, more accurately, one-eighth-heartedly) signed one today.

Another Tom Sawyer sighting-- this time at the Summit Democratic Party Executive Committee meeting, collecting signatures for his run and putting "Sawyer for Congress" stickers on everyone within reach.

Betty Sutton was also hanging around.
